Here are some of the caricatures I did yesterday at Alton Towers. It was great to spend the day working with both Mick Hollinworth and Mike Carlon, its rare that we all actually get to work together.. so it was a really good day and we had some lovely people in the booth being drawn! I've been trying out some new markers lately and did the caricatures shown here with the Prismacolor Premier marker. I really like the line variation and quality you get from them .. Awesome pens!

Portrait Artist Festival in Eindhoven...

Both myself and my good friend and fellow caricature artist Mike Carlon recently travelled from Staffordshire to Stansted to catch a flight over to Eindhoven, Holland to attend the "Mont Martre in de Bergen" A portrait artists festival, where we sat among many other caricature artists, portrait and silhouette artists drawing members of the public from 1pm - 5pm before spending the rest of the evening socialising with the other artists in attendance, and catching up with friends.

It was a very enjoyable day and it was so nice to be invited and made to feel so welcome. As you can imagine copious amounts of alcohol were consumed, so myself, Mike and many others were a bit worse for wear the following day, but it was great to explore Eindhoven on the Sunday before returning to the airport for the journey home. The festival was a huge success and brought in a lot of interest from the locals, who loved having their portraits and caricatures drawn. It made TV news and was in the papers the very next day. It will be held again next year and I very much look forward to going back and doing it all again! .. Hopefully Mick Hollinworth and Tim 'Welly' Wells will be able to join us next time!

This is a caricature I just did for a couple I met at a wedding fair at the weekend. They booked me to draw at their wedding in August and wanted something funny to put on display for the guests to have a giggle at. The photograph doesn't do it any justice, as its really distorted the colours, but this was the best image I could get ... (I'm certainly no photographer, thats for sure!)

This is a cartoon I did back in January for a customer as a birthday gift for her son. He recently retired from the Armed Forces and is now living the civilian life in London. Apparently he is very fond of wearing his suit, military tie, and bowler hat! I'd have liked to have a go at this one digitally on the I-pad, but unfortunately I didn't own one at the time. I'm glad she was happy with the result ...

This will 'probably' be my last post of 2010, so I just wanted to wish everyone who visits my blog, and all my friends and family a wonderful christmas and a happy and healthy new year! I look forward to 2011, as I will be drawing live caricatures at Alton Towers theme park, alongside the awesome talents of Mick Hollinworth and Mike Carlon. I have just returned from Las Vegas, where I attended my first "International Society Of Caricature Artists" Convention. I had an absolutely wonderful time, and it was great to meet so many talented caricature artists from all over the world. I was totally inspired by all the amazing artwork being produced, I have to say I was in my element! It was an absolutely fantastic experience and I am glad I have made so many new friends in the caricature world,... it's beyond awesome!!!! I have returned home with a stronger passion, will and desire to succeed and really push my art to the limits...and far beyond, and I'm already looking forward to attending the ISCA's 20th Convention in 2011 being held in Florida!... BRING IT ON!!

Last night I had a booking to draw some live 5 minute caricatures for the area mangers of the 'Vintage Inns' at a dinner party in Bristol. Unfortunately, I felt really ill all day, and the smell of the food was nausiating! I'm also not a big fan of drawing people while they are eating, I find it a bit difficult ... and a slightly intrusive! Nevertheless, the caricatures were very well received and raised a lot of laughter, and I have managed to pick up some more gigs from them for future celebrations ... On Saturday 9th October I attended a John Lewis Partnership party, to draw caricatures of the staff from the Southampton branch. The party was held at the Rose Bowl cricket ground, and was a really fun gig !! Everyone enjoyed their caricatures and loved the humour. It always amazes me how much it makes people laugh when I draw them as I REALLY see them!, and that raucous laughter is like a drug! It's always nice to work (if you can call it work!) in a fun and relaxed atmosphere such as this event was!

Many thanks to Stuart Stonehouse for being a great host and making me feel so welcome, this job was an absolute pleasure to do! I had blast and I very much look forward to working for JLP again in the future. Here are a few shots I took throughout the evening ...

On Tuesday, I travelled up to London to meet up with two of my good friends and fellow caricature artists Mike Carlon and Steve Hearn. Mike was working at a two day event at Earl's Court and Steve travelled in from Essex to meet up with us for a bit of drawing, and drinking! We all got together about 4pm and visited several nice pubs in the Kensington area and immediately got to work picking out random people and drawing caricatures of them, it was great fun and they all loved the humour!

After a number of drinks (I forget just how many), we stumbled across a chinese restaurant which was very small, but served probably the best Chinese cuisine I have ever tasted in my life, it was truly fantastic! We all had a couple more beers each and chatted about the ISCA and the world of caricature in general, .....and other subjects which I can't really mention! (Come on,... use your imagination!!!!). It was an absolutely fab day and really great to see the guys, as usual!

We parted company about 10pm to make our way home, and Mike back to his hotel, before starting another stint at Earl's Court the following morning. Thanks to you both for a great afternoon/evening, it was great fun and well worth the journey!!

The 'Cancer Sucks' T-shirts we are wearing in the photo's were in support of our friend and fellow artist Brad Bailey, who is unfortunately suffering with a cancerous tumour in his leg. We wish him all the best for a full and speedy recovery! You're in our thought's Brad, just stay focused and stay positive!!

This week I met Simon Day, from one of my all time favorite TV comedy programmes 'THE FAST SHOW'. I have met a few celebrities in my time, but never so close to home. I found him to be a really nice fella and very down to earth. We had a chat about some of his characters in the show and I managed to slip into the conversation that I was a caricaturist, so he asked for my business card. I hope I get some work at a celebrity party...Fingers tightly crossed!!! It was reaally great to meet him and have a giggle! Gotta love The Fast Show!

I arrived home on Wednesday evening from my 2nd awesome 3 day visit to the UK's largest theme park, Alton Towers, to get some training in the 'live' caricature booth with Mike Carlon. It was great to meet Liesbeth Beckers from Belgium who was working the summer season there. Also great to see Mick Hollinworth & Tim Wells again! I had a fantastic time and picked up loads of valuable tips and information to help me progress with my own caricature art, in order to work there myself next summer. Thanks for the help and inspiration guys.. and big thanks to Mick for offering me the position! I am made up, and I can't wait to start! I have a lot of hard work ahead of me so I best knuckle down and get on with it!

Caricaturing in Poole, Dorset.

The weather has been really great so far this summer, so I thought I would take advantage of it by heading off down to Poole in Dorset to draw some live caricatures of the tourists. I can definitely see the problems we are facing with the current recession, and I don't think it has even started yet! I've not been anywhere near as busy as last year, and sometimes I even struggle to get somebody to be my stool pigeon and get drawn for free...just to attract some sitters!

I suppose I just have to be thankful I have got plenty of gigs coming up to tide me over for the next few months. It's certainly not easy this caricaturing lark!...but I really enjoy it and definitely won't be giving it up any time soon, that's for sure! Thanks to my good friend Melanie for snapping this photo, proving that I actually do some work...well, sometimes! LOL!

I attended a corporate function in Croydon, South London on Friday night to draw caricatures alongside my good pal Steve Hearn. I had the pleasure of meeting, chatting to, and drawing snooker ace Willie Thorne (a.k.a The Great W.T). Willie is the first celebrity I have met whilst drawing at a function, I thought he was a really nice down to earth fella and I am so glad he enjoyed the picture I drew of him. (Unfortunately I didn't get a photograph)...but he was kind enough to autograph the back of one of my business cards! Thanks Willie!!

Whilst drawing 'live' caricatures at Poole in Dorset, I was approached by an elderly gentleman called Tony. He stopped for a chat and told me about the time he worked for the Poole Arts Centre back in 1974 (Crikey,... I was a baby then!). He got to meet and chat with Michael Jackson who was playing a gig there with the Jackson Five. He even made him a cup of coffee backstage and picked up autographs from each member of the band. After a few minutes of talking to me, Tony scuttled off home, and then returned an hour later with all his memorabilia and the newspaper cuttings to back up his story. He asked me if I could produce a caricature of him (as a younger man) stood beside Michael Jackson. This is what I came up with... I'm glad he liked it!

Squirrels, Nuts & Flying Rivets . . .

I was recently commissioned to provide cartoon illustrations for a book called 'Squirrels, Nuts & Flying Rivets'. I didn't have a clue from the title what the book could possibly be about, but it sounded interesting ... so I agreed to do it,.. and thought it would be nice to get some of my artwork published. The book is about the life and times of a man who goes by the name of Richard 'Turbo' Vincent, and his revival of a 'Foden' C-type Steam Engine. Richard has appeared many times on a TV show called 'Scrapheap Challenge'. The book was an absolute joy to work on, but shortly after going into print, I was saddened to hear that the author, Brian Trevis died of a heart attack. He was only in his early 40's with a wife and two very young children. He was a great guy and I worked very closely with him on the project, and was in the process of illustrating a second publication for him. My sincere condolences go out to his family. R.I.P Brian!

First is a T-shirt I designed for a group of friends off on a skiing trip to the French Alpes...They called themselves the 'Wolfi Marmots'...I never understood why?!!!!.

And second is a caricature for a couple of lovely Scottish ladies me and my mate John met whilst on holiday in sunny Majorca!...Way back in 2002!....I really must have another holiday!!!

I recently browsed through a portfolio of some of my old 'Black & White' cartoon work. I used these two pictures as T-shirt designs for a holiday in Magaluf with my brother and best mate John! We never fully recovered from the 2002 holiday,.. so the 2003 version never got used!
